Effect of shaping on turbulent dynamics in reversed-field pinch simulations

چکیده
We study the influence of shape plasma container on dynamics Reversed Field Pinch (RFP). The geometries we consider are periodic cylinders with elliptical and circular-shaped cross-sections. Numerical simulations fully nonlinear visco-resistive magnetohydrodynamics carried out to illustrate how affected by shaping. It is shown that independent shape, quantity $\beta$, comparing hydrodynamic pressure magnetic pressure, decreases for increasing values Lundquist number, but gradient fluctuations remain roughly constant, when compared Lorentz force. Different shapes cross-section domain lead excitation different toroidal (or axial) dynamic modes. Furthermore, it found in a geometry circular significant local poloidal angular momentum observed, absent cross-section. Since confinement dominantly determined movement, velocity field modified modification geometry, shaping can thus affect performance RFP-devices.

The MHD mode trajectory in the Madison Symmetric Torus reversed-field pinch has been found to obey the sine-Gordon equation. Corresponding to experiment, a perturbation analysis predicts the locations of mode locking to be at the vacuum chamber poloidal and/or toroidal gaps. The mode's energy dissipates when it locks, as shown by a decaying spiral phase-plane trajectory. Unlocked modes travel a...
متن کاملMicrotearing modes in reversed field pinch plasmas.
In the reversed field pinch RFX-mod strong electron temperature gradients develop when the single-helical-axis regime is achieved. Gyrokinetic calculations show that in the region of the strong temperature gradients microtearing instabilities are the dominant turbulent mechanism acting on the ion Larmor radius scale. The quasilinear evaluation of the electron thermal conductivity is in good agr...

متن کاملSingle-helicity states in compressible magnetohydrodynamics simulations of the reversed-field pinch with nonuniform resistivity
Using a magnetohydrodynamics numerical code that includes the description of density and pressure evolution and anisotropic thermal conductivity, it is shown that single-helicity states in the reversed-field pinch (RFP) configuration are obtained when the resistivity has a radial profile sharply increasing close to the wall. In contrast, a uniform resistivity produces multiple-helicity states. ...
